The Teachers

All of our teachers are committed to their ongoing personal practice and development and have either completed or are currently undertaking and Iyengar Teacher Training Programme.

They are committed to attending regular programmes with senior teachers within Australia and overseas. Many regularly attend classes at the Ramanami Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India.

Ashlea Wilken

Ashlea came to Yoga in the early 1980's. Since then, Yoga has been woven into her life as a valuable tool in managing the many joys and pains that life presents. After moving from Sydney, Ashlea helped found the Yoga School in 1985 and started teaching whilst pregnant with the third of her four children. As well as managing the School and teaching beginners, Corporate and pregnancy classes, she has been coordinating annual yoga retreats in Bali since 1994 with various teachers.

Ross Parris

Ross was first introduced to Yoga in 1994 in New Zealand. He has completed the FINY Teachers Training Course and gained Iyengar teaching certification in 2006 with his current teacher John Leebold. In that same year he travelled to Pune, India, to take instruction at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. Ross began teaching in 1999 and he is committed to advancing awareness of the "art, science and therapy" of Iyengar Yoga..

Sue Edwards

Sue has practiced several different styles of yoga over many years. She has settled on the Iyengar style, which has proven to be of most benefit and gives her a great sense of wellbeing and strength in the body. She has an evolving regular practice and is a Certified Iyengar Teacher. Sue also works as a hospital pharmacist.

Maryke Loren

Maryke has many years teaching experience both here in Australia and Overseas. She regularly attends Workshops/Retreats to help deepen her own practice and has had the privilege to do some studies under TKV Desikachar, who like BKS Iyengar studied under Sri T Krishnamacharya. Maryke is also currently one of the Teachers on the FINY Teacher Training Program, and also regularly volunteers her time for the Sivananda Ashram in Fremantle.

Masayo Baba

Masayo comes from a background of creative crafts and started practicing yoga in 2004 after arriving in Perth from Tokyo the previous year. She completed IYTA yoga teacher training in 2007. Masayo became an Iyengar Introductory 1 teacher in 2009 and continues to do Iyengar Teacher Training with a senior teacher.

Paula Handley

Paula has had a committed yoga practice for over eight years and has studied in England, Australia and India. She became a certified Iyengar teacher Introductory Level Two in 2007 and still undertakes teacher training in India and Australia on a regular basis. One of Paula's favourite places is her yoga mat where she finds beauty and experiences joy and well being. She says it is a daily choice to live within yoga, a unity of body, mind and soul. Of this she says that yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar and family have been of great influence. 'They are my spiritual teachers who act as a guide and example.'
