The Teachers

All of our teachers are committed to their ongoing personal practice and development and have either completed or are currently undertaking and Iyengar Teacher Training Programme.

They are committed to attending regular programmes with senior teachers within Australia and overseas. Many regularly attend classes at the Ramanami Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India.

Ashlea Wilken

Ashlea came to Yoga over 20 years ago whilst travelling overseas. Since then, Yoga has been woven into her life as a valuable tool in managing the many joys and pains that life presents. After moving from Sydney, Ashlea helped found the Yoga School in 1985 and started teaching whilst pregnant with the third of her four children. As well as managing the School and teaching beginners, Corporate and pregnancy classes, she has been coordinating annual yoga retreats in Bali since 1994 with various teachers.

Maurice McCann

Maurice started practicing yoga in 1980. After a six-year break he was introduced to Iyengar yoga in 1996 and started teaching in 2000. He is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher. Maurice has a Bachelor of Business (HRM) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Business Ethics). Maurice is the co-proprietor of the School.

Sue Edwards

Sue has practiced several different styles of yoga over many years. She has settled on the Iyengar style, which has proven to be of most benefit and gives her a great sense of wellbeing and strength in the body. She has an evolving regular practice and is a Certified Iyengar Teacher. Sue also works as a hospital pharmacist.

Paul Barker

Paul started Yoga in 1995. In 2002 he established the Smiling Buddha Yoga Centre in Bayswater which he sold in 2007. His interests are Equities Trading and Travel he has travelled to over 50 countries.

Devamani

Devamani has studied yoga in Bihar, India. She ran a yoga studio in Asia for eight years and most recently spent four years at the Satyananda Yoga Academy of Mangrove Mountain as a senior lecturer in yogic studies. She has been teaching yoga for 15 years.

Greg Zehnder

Greg started Iyengar yoga at the WA School of Yoga in 1996. He enjoys the physical and mental challenge of yoga and recognises how the long term benefits have changed how he lives his life. Greg recently completed an accredited yoga course. He has been involved in Education for 35 years and is currently Deputy Principal at Churchlands Senior High.

Masayo Baba

Masayo comes from a background of creative crafts and started practicing yoga in 2004 after arriving in Perth from Tokyo the previous year. She completed yoga teacher training in 2007 and continues to develop her practice and refine her teaching skills. She is currently studying Anatomy and Physiology.
